Voice Solutions:
Voice Over IP (VoIP): the routing
of voice conversations over the Internet or through any other IP-based network.
VoIP offers significant cost savings in utilizing a single network to carry voice
and data, as well as increased efficiency by allowing disparate systems to converge
within one network through a Unified Communications Solution.
Unified Communications: the integration
of disparate communications systems and media, desktop computers, applications and
mobility. This potentially includes the integration of voice both fixed and mobility
, e-mail, instant messaging, desktop and advanced business applications, Internet
Protocol (IP)-PBX, voice over IP (VoIP), presence, voice-mail, fax, audio video
and web conferencing, unified messaging, unified voicemail, and whiteboarding into
a single environment offering the user a more complete but simpler experience.
Call Manager: Cisco Unified Communications
Manager (formerly Cisco Unified CallManager) software provides the call-processing
component of the Cisco Unified Communications system, in addition to being the foundation
for advanced capabilities including video, mobility, and presence-based services.
It is a scalable, distributable, and highly available enterprise IP telephony call-processing
solution.
IPICS (Interoperability): Cisco
IPICS enhances radio interoperability offering simple, scalable, comprehensive communications
collaboration. More than just radio interoperability, the Cisco IPICS solution orchestrates
resources, media, and information and delivers push-to-talk services across radio
networks, IP networks, and traditional networks, to:
- Radios
- Telephones
- Mobile phones
- Cisco Unified IP Phones
- PCs
Power Over Ethernet (POE): a system
to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair
cable in an Ethernet network. This technology is useful for powering IP telephones,
wireless LAN access points, Network cameras, Ethernet hubs, embedded computers,
and other appliances where it would be inconvenient, expensive, or infeasible to
supply power separately.
Video Solutions:
Video TeleConferencing (VTC): also known
as a videoconference, is a set of interactive telecommunication technologies
which allow two or more locations to interact via two-way video and audio transmissions
simultaneously. VTC conferences can be conducted with remote locations all around
the world through enhanced network technologies.
Video On Demand (VoD): a system that
allow users to select and watch video and clip content over a network as part of
an interactive television system. VoD systems either "stream" content - allowing
viewing in real time, or "download" it - saving the entire file to a set-top box
to view.
Video Telephony: use of videophones, telephones
which are capable of both audio and video duplex transmission. Primarily used to
serve individual users, not groups.
TelePresence: Cisco TelePresence is a
new technology that combines rich audio, high-definition video, and interactive
elements to deliver a unique in-person video conferencing experience -
over the network.
Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV): the use
of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific, limited set of monitors. CCTV
is often used for surveillance in areas which need security.
